An earlier retirement than planned is in the offing for a man whose numbers came up in the People's Postcode Lottery.
People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador, Judie McCourt presents a shocked Malcolm with his cheque.
Malcolm Greensmith, from Balderton, was in shock this weekend after his postcode, NG24 3AT, was drawn as a winner in People’s Postcode Lottery’s Saturday Street Prize, bagging him £50,000.
Mr Greensmith, 62, was at home with his wife, Angela, when he was surprised by People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador, Judie McCourt.
"This has not sunk in yet,” he said: “I had no idea I would win so much."
Quality Manager Malcolm doubled his prize by accident.
“I decided to sign up recently and found it a very easy online process,” he said.
“However, when I entered my details I signed up for two tickets instead of one. I told my wife and we both decided to keep playing with two tickets. I’m so glad we did.”
Reverting to one ticket would have seen his £50,000 winnings halved.
The winnings have come at a great time for Malcolm as it means he will be able to retire sooner that he had planned.
“I had hoped to retire next June but winning this money means I can bring it forward to the end of this year,” he said.
“I’m delighted and this money will go straight into the retirement pot.”
As well as helping towards his retirement, Malcolm is keen to celebrate with Angela, his son and daughter-in-law and two grandchildren.
Judie McCourt, said: “I’m so glad this money will help Malcolm to retire early and I know he will be thrilled that he didn’t cancel his extra ticket.”
As a charity lottery, players have raised over £47.2 m for good causes across Great Britain and globally.
