Voters in Newark will head to the polls for the fourth time in three years

A General Election will be held on June 8 after MPs backed a snap poll in the House of Commons.

Prime Minister Theresa May announced yesterday that she was seeking to hold a General Election on June 8 but it needed approval by at least two-third of MPs under the Fixed Term Parliaments Act.

Members of the House of Commons backed the poll by 522 votes to 13 today.

It means people in Newark will be heading to the polls for the fourth time since the by-election in 2014.
