Traffic is now clearing around Newark Castle station after delays caused by stuck barriers

Traffic is easing in Newark town centre after the level crossing barriers at Newark Castle Station were stuck down.

The barriers were stuck down from just after 1pm for around an hour-and-a-half.

A Network Rail spokesman said: “Just after 1pm, level crossing barriers at Newark Castle level crossing failed to rise.

"In order to keep members of the public and train passengers safe, all barriers were placed in the down position.

"We’d like to apologise to anyone who is experiencing disruption due to this incident."
