There has been welcome news regarding plans for dementia patients to have treatment at Newark Hospital (Dementia Care A priority, Advertiser, April 20).

I believe that if this can be run and managed in the same way as that at King’s Mill Hospital, Sutton-in-Ashfield, local patients and their carers will be more than pleased.

Mr Ken Daubney, the chairman of the Newark Dementia Carers’ Group, has worked extremely hard trying to improve the lives of members of this group with weekly boccia, sessions, and by arranging outings and occasional dances.

The provision of this new facility at Newark Hospital would be a great step forward for people with this illness and their carers.

The whole community need to be aware that this is an illness that can affect many families and any support is most welcome. — DOREEN LANGFORD, Marlborough Close, Newark.
