It would seem scarce resources may be used to hide the mess that the developer of Newark’s Robin Hood Hotel site has been allowed to get away with.

I remain baffled as the law seems very clear as to the responsibilities of owners of listed property, and if Newark and Sherwood District Council planning department had carried these through the TV cameras would have pleasant views of a restored Georgian facade, which would have enhanced any coverage of the Tour Of Britain cycle race.

While the buildings are still standing it is not too late for them to be restored.

Places like Bath and York treasure their building heritage and most places have learnt from the mistakes of the 1960s and 1970s when historic buildings were destroyed and replaced with what have become modern eyesores.

Perhaps Newark has not caught up yet. — D. YATES, Thurgarton (Full address supplied).
