With reference to Brian Clark’s letter (Call For Clean-up, News Views, July 26) I totally agree.

We walk around a few streets in Newark, and often walk into town via Lover’s Lane and can’t believe the amount of litter discarded in the gutters.

Mr Clark is spot on about the amount of equipment and vehicles the council has, so why can’t it spend some time down these various streets armed with brushes and shovels, and get Newark back to how it was years ago?

On a different subject, we live on the busy Fosse Road in Farndon and have to risk life and limb and walk on the road because the footpath has been taken over by trees and bushes.

It makes you wonder where the vast amount of taxes we are paying to the district council is being spent. — Paul Dachtler, Fosse Road, Farndon.
