Newark Town have unveiled a new management team for next season after a week of arrivals and departures.

Tony Joynes — in his third stint at the Blues — will remain as joint manager after last season’s seventh-place finish in Central Midlands League North Division.

But he will have a new man alongside him after fellow joint manager Simon Daws left to take over the manager’s role at Radcliffe Olympic in the East Midlands Counties League.

A Town spokesman said: “We would like to thank Simon for his contribution last season and wish him every success in his new position.”

Daws has been replaced by Nicky Andersen, who worked with Joynes at United Counties League side Harrowby United two seasons ago.

Andersen has previous experience as manager of Spalding United, when they were in the Southern League, and at the helm of United Counties League Blackstones for a short time in 2014.

Last season he was assistant manager at Sleaford Town.

The highly-experienced Bob Shaw has rejoined Newark as first-team coach.

The senior set-up also sees Steve ‘Dewey’ Chappell, manager of last season’s successful under-18 team, step up to take charge of Newark Town Under-21s.

The previous manager of the under-21 side, Danny Purves, has joined the coaching team at Manchester City.

Town have arranged six pre-season friendlies, all away from home, beginning with a trip to local rivals Southwell City on Wednesday, July 12 (7.15pm).

On the following Saturday they will go to Notts Senior League side FC Cavaliers (3pm).

There will be two further matches against Notts Senior League sides — Kirton Brickworks (Wednesday, July 19, 7pm) and Bingham Town (Saturday, July 22, 3pm).

Harrowby United are the hosts on July 26 (7.45pm) before the final pre-season fixture at Central Midlands League side Pinxton on Saturday, July 29.

Town’s new league season will start on Saturday, August 5.
