There is more Shakespeare in the grounds of Newark Castle next week as an all-female cast perform his comedy As You Like It.
After the success of Three Inch Fools’ version of Romeo And Juliet last month, HandleBards theatre company will perform another of the Bard’s works a week tomorrow.
HandleBards, who twice performed at Newark Castle last year, are a cycling theatre company.
They pedal from venue to venue with all the set props and costumes necessary for their performances.
As You Like It is performed by the company’s all-female troupe.
It tells the story of Rosalind and Orlando, who have been forced into exile in the Forest of Arden.
As lovers, they become entangled in a bizarre game of lust, love and mistaken identity, meeting a host of memorable characters along the way.
In usual HandleBards style, expect riotous amounts of energy, a fair old whack of chaos, and a great deal of laughter.
Gates open at 6pm ahead of the performance at 7pm.
Tickets cost £15 in advance or £17 on the day. Under-16s are free.
The audience is encouraged to take chairs, picnics, blankets and any other low-level accessories.
HandleBards will perform in all except extreme weather. In case of rain, the company asks that people do not use umbrellas, which would block the views of others, but wear raincoats instead.
HandleBards launched in 2013, covering 967 miles from Glasgow to London with Romeo And Juliet and Twelfth Night.
A spokesman said: “The HandleBards began because adventures are fun — we love to explore.
“We are four-strong troupes of cycling actors who carry with us all of the necessary set, props and costume to perform extremely energetic, charmingly chaotic and environmentally sustainable Shakespeare plays across the globe.”
They have been nominated for the Stage Awards 2017 sustainability award.
