Having more fun on holiday

It is safe to say that the vast majority of us think about going on holiday often. Work, school, and family obligations take up all of our time, and it isn’t long before the stress sets in. Getting away and going on holiday is a fantastic way to get away from the hustle and bustle.

Unfortunately, far too many people go on holiday and don’t enjoy it. Whether it be over-planning or a lack of execution, the holiday quickly becomes something that you just “get through” rather than enjoying. Thankfully, there are a few simple tips to follow that can help you to actually enjoy your trip.

.

Take Shorter Trips

The vast majority of people take long holidays, oftentimes a week or more at a time. The mentality is understandable – getting away for as long as possible – but it almost feels like a holiday rather than getting away and enjoying your time off. For that reason, mini getaways can be the best option.

Try taking a weekend holiday rather than something that is going to last a week. Even a long weekend can be enough to get out, enjoy your time, and charge your batteries again. A long holiday typically comes with a lot of plans, which can turn out to be more exhausting than anything going on in your real life.

Get Up and Get Moving

While the goal should be to relax, partaking in social activities or being active for short periods can amplify the joy you feel on holiday. Checkout rooftops for hire and have the party experience of a lifetime with your friends and family, in a local setting. Is the social scene not really your thing? Get out and take a hike, enjoying the local scenery.

It might sound great to lay around on the couch or in the pool all day every day, but it can get boring quickly. Take the time to get up and move around, enjoy the sites in the area, and stay functional. Not only will it help your mental function, but it will provide a much better chance of enjoying your time.

Go with Experience, Not Souvenirs

A simple but common mistake that most travelers make is worrying about getting a souvenir from their time. We want to remember the positive experiences, so it feels like the best option is to grab a trinket or a sweatshirt that shows that we had the experience in the first place. In reality, it is not practical and just results in clutter and wasted money.

While it might seem right to get a memento from the trip, it isn’t going to last. Opt for experiences rather than physical keepsakes. Even if you don’t take pictures of that experience, the memory will live on for far longer than any physical item. Try to see and do more things rather than buying cheap gifts that aren’t going to last a year.

Plan What You Can

Depending on your personality type, planning ahead or not planning at all seems like the only two options. But what if you could meet in the middle? Last-minute travel can lead to some seriously discounted fares, but it can also add to your stress levels while traveling.

Try to plan the things you can while leaving a little room to get creative. Get adventurous and take a hike that you may not have otherwise planned for. That’s the good kind of spontaneity. Failing to book a flight and showing up in a book a last-minute deal is the wrong kind of spontaneity. Find that balance and do just enough planning to keep things positive and moving.
