£12,000 was cost of Traveller site clean-ups says Newark and Sherwood District Council — it included sites in Ollerton, Newark and Coddington
Almost £12,000 had to be spent by Newark and Sherwood District Council between 2015 and 2018 to clean-up the mess left behind by Travellers, a Freedom of Information Act request has revealed.
The district council spent £11,912 during this time to cover the costs of clear-ups on sites illegally inhabited.
Sites that required clearing included Darwin Drive, Ollerton; Newbury Road, Newark; Sconce and Devon Park, Newark; Orchard Park, Coddington; Newark Sports and Fitness Centre, Bowbridge Road; Vicar Water Country Park, Clipstone; and Chestnut Avenue, Lincoln Road.
Newark Sports and Fitness Centre and Orchard Park were problem sites.
Both had to be cleared twice between 2016 and 2018, costing the council £4,650 and £2,500 respectively.
A further £1,850 was spent in 2018 to clean-up the site on Newbury Road, Newark.
