Lowdham Horticultural Society’s 130th annual summer show to take place on August Ba
A village summer show is a celebration of its130th year.
Extracts from the archives of the Lowdham Horticultural Society archives show the the Newark Advertiser reported on the event in July 26 1893 - 'The first Annual Show of flowers, plants, fruit and vegetables in connection with the Lowdham and District Horticultural Society was held in a field at the rear of the Magna Charta Inn.'
The Lowdham summer show is on Bank Holiday Monday, August 28, at Lowdham Village Hall and playing fields (NG14 7DB).
It is open to the public from 1pm to 4.30pm. Entrance is £2.50. Under16s free.
Show secretary Anne Cross said: “Come along and enjoy all that that this wonderful traditional village event has to offer.
“We have an afternoon of great entertainment for all the family - Nottingham Concert Band, the Dako Flying Angels, Punch and Judy, duck race, stalls and games. Refreshments are available until 4pm to include tea and home-cake and a licenced bar. Wander round the exhibitors' marquee full of home-grown flowers, fruit and vegetables, home baking, preserves, handicrafts, photography, floral art and exhibits by young people.
