Southwell singer wins funds to support his music career

An 18-year-old singer has won vital funds to support his music career.

Ben Staniforth, of Southwell, is this year’s winner of the Southwell Choral Society Bursary and the David McIntosh Award — each worth £500 of funding.

Ben, who attends Nottingham High School, impressed the selection panel with his performance as a singer.

“His choice of music was adventurous and demanding, and his presentation was very accomplished,” said Thelma Clark, chairman of the Southwell Choral Society Annual Bursary Awards.

“Once Ben has completed his A-Level exams he plans to study for a degree in Music at York University.

“He has been having singing lessons since an early age, and already holds a prestigious ARSM diploma.

“The panel yet again this year were highly impressed with the standard of every applicant, making the process of selection more difficult.

“However, the final decision in favour of Ben was unanimous.”

Southwell Choral Society hope to arrange a date for Ben to appear as a soloist in one of their concerts in the near future.
