Officers arrest 19-year-old man in Newark after tracking stolen Jaguar to Tolney Lane

A teenager has been arrested after police tracked down and recovered a stolen Jaguar within hours of it being reported missing.

Shortly after the vehicle was reported missing, on Sunday (April 13), Newark’s neighbourhood team received information that the car had been seen and conducted a quick area search.

A few minutes later officers spotted the vehicle they’d been looking for on Tolney Lane, and blocked it in.

The driver then leapt out of the Jaguar without putting the handbrake on, leaving the slow-moving car to roll into a wall as a result.

Despite him trying to make a run for it, a short foot chase saw the driver detained at around 4pm on Sunday.

A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, and driving without a valid licence or insurance.

This came just a couple of hours after the owner first notified police about the theft, which happened at some point between 11pm on Friday, April 11, and late morning on the Sunday.

The Jaguar has since been returned to its owner.

Sergeant Rishi Thobhani, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “The Newark team one officers involved in this incident did a great job reacting to new information as it came in to secure a positive result.

“Within minutes of hearing about a potential sighting of this car, the team had made their way out into the community to conduct an area search, found what they were looking for, and detained a suspect at the scene.

“All of that ultimately meant we were able to return a stolen vehicle to its rightful owner, which represented good work all-round and really summed up the positive impact neighbourhood policing can have for local residents.”
