A 15-year-old boy suffered serious injuries that included cuts to his head when his bike was involved in a collision with a car on the bridge over the A1 at Fernwood on Sunday afternoon.
The boy was taken to hospital with what police described as serious but not life-threatening or life-altering injuries.
The collision happened around 4pm. The boy was tended at the scene by passers-by who administered first aid and wrapped his head in clothing to stem the blood before an ambulance arrived.
The boy was taken to Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham.
Those who stopped at the scene also directed traffic around the incident until the arrival of the emergency services who then closed the road for a short time.
