New Miss Newark is keen to show support for charities
An 18-year-old student was crowned Miss Newark on Saturday and says she is keen to support charities in the town.
Aimee Knight decided to enter after being spotted in her home town of Lincoln by Miss Lincolnshire, who handed her a form.
“I took it home and took a few days to think about it and did a lot of research to see what was involved,” she said.
“I thought it was something I would enjoy and decided to enter.”
Aimee said that as it was her first beauty pageant she went along primarily for the experience.
“I was nervous and didn’t really know what to expect,” she said.
“So I was completely astonished and overwhelmed to be crowned Miss Newark.”
The event was held at Kelham Hall and Country Park where she was also named as Miss Popularity.
Aimee, who is studying for A-levels, said she wanted to spend her year as Miss Newark supporting charities in the town, starting with the Children’s Bereavement Centre.
“I want to get involved as much as possible and do as much as I can to help,” she said.
Aimee will now go on to compete in the semi-finals of Miss England, to be held in July.

As part of her prize package, Aimee won a two-month gym pass at Anytime Fitness, Newark; five personal training sessions with Daz Adcock; a pageant training course with The Pageant Team; and a portfolio photo shoot with Paul Carroll, the official photographer.
Two other titles were awarded at the Kelham Hall event — Chloe Shannon Brookes was named Miss Grantham and Milly Everatt as Miss Lincoln.
