It is hoped the whole of Newark will go yellow on Friday, June 29, in support of little Liam Andrew.

Liam, of Beacon Heights, Newark, has a rare cancerous tumour called Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG).

The colour yellow is being used for events in support of an appeal for Liam as he is a big fan of the Minions characters from the Despicable Me films.

Schools and businesses are being urged to encourage staff and pupils to wear yellow in return for a £1 donation.

The appeal to raise £½m was started by Liam’s cousin, Mrs Laura Fearnley, and her husband, Liam, along with her mother, Mrs Tracy Ferguson, as soon as the diagnosis was known so that money could be available for any treatments that might help Liam.

"We would love it if the whole town went yellow," said Laura .

Yellow T-shirts with the #love4littleliam slogan are being supplied at cost price by a Newark company.

Lynsey Dolan, of Barnby, whose son, John, 6, is a friend of Liam’s at Coddington Primary School, said she decided to help find someone to supply the T-shirts after seeing a piece on the appeal’s Facebook page asking if anyone could help.

She contacted Paw Print Designs, of Trinity Road, who were pleased to help.

Lynsey said her aim was originally to sell 200 but she had already sold 172 and had ordered more.

The T-shirts are available in adult sizes, from small to XXL, and for children from one upwards.

They cost £10 for adults and £8 for children. They will be available at most of the events in support of the appeal, as will #love4littleliam wrist-bands.

A #love4Liam fun day fundraiser will be held at Flowserve Sports and Social Club, Bald-erton, on Sunday.

People are being asked to wear yellow for the event, which has been organised by close friends of Liam’s parents.

Attractions include the fire service, police, ponies, inflatables, football, a DJ and a singer. There will be face-painting, a cake stall, an ice-cream van and stocks.

There will be a raffle, tombola, stalls and an auction.

The event is from noon until 5pm. Entry is £5 for adults and free for children.
