A man who worked at the same diesel workshop for more than 50 years said he had enjoyed every day.

Mr Catello Boschetto, known as Bosch, joined C. F. Parkinson Ltd as an apprentice diesel fuel injection engineer in 1964, when he was just 15.

He worked with the company when it was based on Castlegate in the 1960s, and then worked at two sites on Newark Industrial Estate for more than 40 years before Parkinson’s was bought out by Motor Parts Direct.

The 68-year-old was thrown a surprise retirement party by his workmates, who presented him with a engraved cut brandy glass and a bottle of brandy to go with it.

Mr Boschetto’s retirement comes as the diesel workshop moves from its current location on Telford Drive, Newark, to Lincoln.

He said he had some wonderful experiences in the workshop, and that each year brought new challenges.

“There are no particular highlights because I have had so many good times and so few bad times,” he said.

“I’m fortunate to have made a lot of friends during my working life.

“I remember being on 24-hour call, going to all sorts of places trying to fix lorries on the roadside and thinking what am I doing, this isn’t me.

“Every year there was a new piece of technology to create interest, and I would go on courses in London to keep up with it, which kept me interested.

“Over the years I have been fortunate to have met so many good customers, and as time goes by you start dealing with people’s sons and, on some occasions, grandsons.”

With a lot of the technology advancing and becoming more computer-based, Mr Boschetto said it was a good time to enjoy his retirement.

“Fuel injection has changed so much over the years and the way I have done it is coming to an end.

“I am really fortunate to have somehow done the course with this industry. In some respects I am retiring at the perfect time.

“With the way the technology is moving forward, if I was ten years younger I would be looking and thinking this isn’t going to last. There is a lot of new state-of- the-art technology at Lincoln I wouldn’t be able to cope with.”

“I am just looking forward to enjoying retirement.”
