570 sign hospital ballot
More than 500 members of the public signed a Save Newark Hospital Campaign ballot in support of retaining and extending services at Newark Hospital.
A stall was set up on Saturday in the Market Place and manned by volunteers.
Members of the public were asked the questions "would you like to see Newark Hospital's accident and emergency retained and developed?" and "would you like to see the Friary Ward re-opened?"
A total of 570 people signed in favour of the proposals.
The ballot follows NHS Nottinghamshire County's decision to replace the accident and emergency at Newark Hospital with a minor injuries unit plus and reduce the number of beds at the hospital.
This followed a public consultation in which 223 consultation documents were returned or completed on-line.
