£60m improvement works to resume
A Newark construction firm will play a key role in sewerage improvement works that are due to take place underneath a road in the town.
Aarsleff Ground Engineering has been asked to construct a watertight enclosure on Harcourt Street.
It will be used during the installation of a 1.2-metre diameter tunnel as part of a £60m project by Severn Trent and contractor BNM Alliance to upgrade Newark’s ageing sewerage and water system.
It will help protect homes from sewer flooding and provide a reliable water source for decades to come.
Staff from Aarsleff are due to be on site at Harcorut Street from January 22, using equipment designed to reduce noise and vibration as the work is taking place on a residential street.
In May, Aarsleff worked on Sleaford Road in the town to construct a shaft that was used to receive a tunnelling machine.
Aarsleff senior technical estimator Mr Ashley Carter said: “It is a great endorsement of Aarsleff’s work that we have been awarded our second contract for the same scheme in Newark, just seven months later.
“There are around 400 homes in Newark that are currently at risk of flooding, demonstrating just how important sheet piling projects like this are in future-proofing our infrastructure and communities.”
