76-year-old Newark man taking on ten marathons in ten days for the Brathay Trust
A 76-year-old man is preparing to run ten marathons in ten days for charity, after completing his 250th parkrun.
Chris Dunn, 76, of Newark, is taking on the Ten In Ten challenge for the Brathay Trust, a charity offering programmes for children, young people and families facing challenges in their lives, personal development and challenges for schools and youth groups.
He said: “I have wanted to do it for a couple of years but was unable to. This year I entered and got the wonderful news that I was accepted.”
Chris is an avid runner, despite having only taken up the sport at 55.
He runs Nottinghamshire’s parkruns most weekends
And Chris holds the record time for his age group in all 13 5km routes.
His 76th birthday, on Saturday, August 27, saw him complete his 250th park run — and announce his participation in the ten in ten challenge.
“It’s good fun, I’ve done every one in Nottinghamshire,” he said. “I can do it in around 22.5 minutes — the top guys can do 16 minutes.”
The challenge will see runners take on the Asics Windermere Marathon route every day for ten days in May 2023— a full lap around the UK’s largest lake — finishing with the annual Windermere Marathon event.
Chris added: “I’ve run a few marathons. But this is totally out of my comfort zone.
“I am probably the oldest person to do the challenge.”
