A list of churches in the area and the services that they will offer over the Christmas period in and around Newark, Nottinghamshire including Southwell Minster and St Mary Magdalene Church
Many people will be wanting to attend church over Christmas and there are various options available.
Here is a round-up of church services across the Advertiser area during the Christmas period.
St Mary Magdalene Church in Newark will host several services starting with a busy programme on Christmas Eve.
9.15am will see the Choral Eucharist take place at the Newark Parish Church.
4pm will see the Christingle ceremony conducted.
A Christingle is a symbolic object used in the Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany services of many Christian denominations.
At 6pm Carols around the Tree will be featured outside of St Leonard.
11.30pm will be the start of the Midnight Mass at St Mary Magdalene.
On Christmas day, the morning communion service will start at 8am.
At 10am the family contemporary Christmas service will take place at St Mary Magdalene.
There will also be a Christmas communion at the same time at St Leonard.
London Road Congregational Church will be holding a Christmas Café event at 10.30am for breakfast followed by an informal Carol Service from 11am on Christmas Eve.
Holy Trinity Catholic Church will hold its first Christmas mass on Christmas Eve at 4pm, December 24.
At 11.30pm on Christmas Eve, they will hold their carols and midnight mass events.
St Giles Balderton will hold two Christingle services on Christmas Eve,
which will take place at 2pm and 4pm.
Balderton Methodist Church will hold their Christmas Day Service at 10.30am.
Southwell Minster will hold several services and events over Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
On Christmas Eve they have a crib service from 2-3pm, followed by an Evensong from 3.30pm to 4.30pm.
Evensong is a church service that's traditionally held every day as the sun goes down — marking the passing of another day in faith.
From 7-8pm, there will be a carol service.
The last event of Christmas Eve will be a eucharist which will go into Christmas day, starting at 11.15pm and ending at 12.15am on Christmas morning.
On Christmas Day between 8 and 9am the Minster will host Holy Communion.
The Cathedral Eucharist will be held between 10 and 11am on Christmas morning.
From 11.15am and 12.05pm will see the Festival Mattins conducted which will be sung by the cathedral choir featuring uplifting music by Stanford and Mathias.
From 12.15 to 12.45pm, another Holy Communion ceremony will be held in the Quire.
3.30 to 4.30pm will see the evening prayer with carols conducted at The Minster.
In Ollerton, St Josephs will hold their Christmas mass on December 24 at 6.30pm.
St Paulinus' Church in New Ollerton will hold its Christingle service at 4pm on Christmas Eve.
The midnight Holy Communion will start at 11.30pm on Christmas Eve and go until midnight.
On Christmas Day, Holy Communion will be conducted at 10.30am.
Bingham Parish Church will hold several events on Christmas Eve.
At 9am, they will begin Holy Communion.
At 10.30am the church will conduct a family worship service.
At 4pm, a Crib Service will be held.
The Crib Service is a service for children and their families based on the Christmas story.
On Christmas day, a family communion will be held from 10am to 11.30am.
