Today is A-level results day, good luck to everyone receiving theirs today




Students across the country will be receiving their A-level results today.

The Advertiser will be providing updates throughout the day as the schools and colleges across the district receive their results.

Below, we've provided a round up of schools and colleges receiving their results, which will provide a list of results and stories from the students themselves.

There were celebrations today as Magnus Church of England Academy announced another year of improved results with well over 84% of the total entries at A*-C and an increase in students achieving the top grades, with more than 44% of entries grades A*-A.

This continues an uninterrupted trend of improvement taking place at Magnus under the leadership of Principal Anna Martin, resulting in their Good Ofsted result earlier this year.

Their latest GCE A2/AS level success has seen 44% of students achieve A*-B outcomes at A Level only, with Vocational subjects achieving over 76% D*-D.

Anna Martin, Principal at Magnus Academy said “Once again I am delighted with these results as they reflect the hard work and dedication put in by staff and students alike. It is encouraging to see our results improving year on year, with an ever increasing sixth form cohort. These results, along with the ‘Good’ Ofsted rating for our sixth form, support what we know about our school, that it is a great place to learn and to work.

“I am mostly delighted that the community of Newark can have confidence in us and the education we provide for their young people. I am pleased that so many are now choosing to send their children to school in the town and look forward to welcoming the biggest sixth form cohort to date to Magnus in September.”

More than 130 students at the Minster School in Southwell completing their final school exams, almost half achieved at least two grades A*-B, and 95% achieved three A-level passes.

Head teacher Mr Matthew Parris said: "Seeing students so happy makes all the hard work worthwhile.

"Our purpose as a school is to achieve the very best outcomes for students in many different ways, including exam results.

"Our year 13 students are now looking forward to their next chapters and I am pleased we have been able to help them on their way.

"Our school motto is succeeding together, and these great results today are a testament to the work of students with families and our committed teachers. Well done to all.”

Sir William Robertson Academy at Welbourn's Year 13 students are celebrating excellent exam results this summer.

The school and its students has seen students achieving its highest ever percentage of A* - B grades.

Mr Mark Guest, headteacher commented: “Hard work has certainly paid-off for our students. Expert teaching and our students’ positive approach to their studies have ensured a set of truly impressive results this year which will provide a fantastic platform from which to launch further study or employment.

"We are delighted that our students’ hard work has been rewarded with these impressive outcomes."

There was a positive reaction from students and teachers alike at Toot Hill College, as 80% of pupils achieved achieved A* to C.

An average B grade was achieved by students, who had the pick of 36 different subjects across A-level and BTEC.

Sandy Paley, head of school, said: "It's was one of our biggest groups to date and we are very pleased to maintain our B grade.

"This year our students sat the final tranche of the new, more rigorous A-level specifications, in subjects such as maths, law and psychology.

"Our students secured strong achievement in all the new courses as part of the suite of 36 A-level and vocational courses offered at our college."

English Literature, Philosophy, Sport and the full range of vocational subjects have all proved to be highly successful this academic year at The Dukeries Academy.

Many subjects exceeded national averages, with the Dukeriess' A*-C grades improving year on year again, from 73% in 2018 to 88% in 2019.

Claire Leitheiser, principal, said: “Once again we are overwhelmed by our students’ achievements. They have worked exceptionally hard to achieve another set of excellent results that will allow them to pave the way for successful

futures.

"We will always be proud to have had the opportunity to nurture and educate them. We look forward to hearing wonderful things about their successes and adventures as they leave us for pastures new.”
