She met her future husband, Andy, while he was stationed in England with the Royal Canadian Air Force.

They were married six months later, on June 22, 1963.

They spent the next 54 years together, rarely spending a night apart, until his death.

She gave birth to her three sons — Jim, Sean and Gregg — while she and Andy were stationed in France, Luxembourg, and Canada.

They moved to Grand Forks, British Columbia, Andy’s hometown, in 1972, and they opened Andy’s TV Centre which became a Grand Forks institution for more than 30 years.

After helping run the store for several years, Jan put her energies into her role as mother for her three boys

Later, she worked as a receptionist for the dental office of Dr. Reuben B. Tataryn, from which she retired in 2015.

At various points, Jan worked with the BC Alzheimer’s Society as a family support contact, she was active in putting on many functions with the Anglican church social committee, and she was particularly proud of her organisational role in the Grand Forks 90th anniversary celebration.

She was regarded as a surrogate mum by countless Border Bruins ice hockey players who billeted with her and Andy over the years.

Jan leaves her sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren Chloe, Ben, Sam, and Raili, and her sister Valerie.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Cancer Foundation.
