Jack Miller of Newark wins Scrivens Opticians and Hearing Care glasses design competition with Paddington Bear themed frames

A creative eight-year-old kept his eyes on the prize and won a competition to design a pair of glasses.

Jack Miller, who lives near Newark, won Scrivens Opticians and Hearing Care’s national competition, and was presented with a collection of Paddington Bear books and a fun model of his design at the optician’s St Marks Place branch in Newark.

Youngsters were encouraged to submit their imaginative designs, with all proceeds from the £1 entry fee going to Alzheimer’s Society.

Branch manager Sam Humphreys said: “Alzheimer’s Society is our chosen charity for the eighth successive year. This was a fun way to engage children and raise awareness of the charity and its work.

“Jack did a great job with his design and is a worthy winner.”

His design was named The Marmalade Sandwich Frame, after Paddington Bear’s favourite food.

Jack’s mother Grace, added: “We spotted the competition when visiting the branch for Jack’s eye test and he was keen to have a go. Jack also noticed that the proceeds were going to Alzheimer’s Society and wanted to support the charity as his paternal Grandad has Alzheimer’s disease.

“Jack wears glasses, so he enjoyed creating his very own design. I’m delighted that he won and feel so proud of him.”
