Police say a car driver had a lucky escape after a rock was thrown through his windscreen on the A1.

The incident happened at around 6.35pm on Wednesday, August 25, as a man drove his silver Mercedes Viano along the A1 between the Tuxford turn off and Markham Moor.

He was driving along the northbound carriageway when a large rock was thrown at his car and smashed the windscreen.

It is thought the rock came from the overhead bridge, which is just before the service station.

The man managed to pull over safely and was not injured, but was very shaken by the incident.

Pc Andy Smith, who is investigating the incident, said: “Luckily, the driver was not hurt, but this sort of mindless behaviour could have had very serious repercussions.

“This could have resulted in a serious collision on a busy road, which could have proved fatal. This sort of behaviour will not be tolerated and I urge anyone who has any information about this incident to please come forward.”

Witnesses should contact Pc Smith on 0300 300 99 99, extension 8077464. Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
