The A46 Newark bypass has re-opened three hours after it was closed because of a collision between a lorry and a car.
The crash happened at around 12.11pm at the junction of the bypass and the Lord Ted roundabout.
The resultant chaos caused delays for motorists who were already battling freezing fog.
Traffic was diverted through Newark town centre where there was gridlock.
The bypass re-opened at 3.05pm, easing congestion.
The driver of a Ford Mondeo involved in the collision was taken to Lincoln County Hospital for treatment to whiplash injuries.
The driver of the Renault lorry was unhurt.
