Radcliffe on Trent play area upgraded with accessible paths and new inclusive equipment
A play area has been upgraded to create a more inclusive environment for all children and families to enjoy.
New accessible paths and equipment have been installed at Wharf Lane Recreation Ground, Radcliffe on Trent, to enhance accessibility at the play area.
Path resurfacing work has made the pathways smoother for wheelchair users and those with walking aids, and a new inclusive seesaw and basket swing have also been installed.
Rushcliffe Borough Council allocated £27,000 of UK Shared Prosperity Funding (UKSPF) to the project, matched by nearly £12,000 from Radcliffe on Trent Parish Council to fund the project.
Rushcliffe Borough Council’s deputy leader Abby Brennan and parish councillors recently joined pupils from Radcliffe on Trent Junior School at the park.
Abby Brennan said: “Wharf Lane Recreation Ground is a fantastic open space here in the village and we’re delighted to support this project through our UKSPF grant to help improve its accessibility so everyone can enjoy the play area.
“In line with our play strategy for the borough, the park has welcomed new play equipment encouraging inclusive play for children, friends and families. The newly installed hard surface path has also significantly enhanced accessibility for wheelchairs, mobility scooters and prams.
“It was wonderful to see pupils from Radcliffe on Trent Junior School enjoying the new additions to the park and we’re pleased the play facilities can be enjoyed by all as we move into the spring and summer months.”
Radcliffe on Trent Parish Council vice chairman Nikki Farnsworth added: “We are excited to include inclusive play equipment into our play areas, and that it will encourage all children to enjoy playing in the park together and also help those less mobile to enjoy the park with their children with the new level paths.
“We are grateful for the funds provided to us so that we could achieve this goal.”
