Newark accountant involved in charities and scouting remembered
An accountant known for his work with charities has died, aged 79.
Adrian Shaw, of Halam, was an accountant for many Nottinghamshire businesses and treasurer for multiple charities throughout his life.
He was born in Hucknall in December of 1942, later moving to Newark where he lived for 42 years.
Adrian set up his accountancy firm — Adrian Shaw and Partners — in the town, before expanding to include offices in Ollerton and his hometown, Hucknall.
Adrian was also keenly involved in charity work.
He was secretary of the Newark branch of Macmillan Cancer Support for many years, and involved with St Leonard’s Trust until his illness left him unable to do so.
He was also treasurer of St Michael the Archangel’s Church, Halam, and spent his later years living in the village.
While his profession as an accountant meant he was often treasurer, he still got involved with fundraising, having helped run fetes and other events.
His son, Tim, said: “He was a kind gentleman who would help anyone.
“He would try to help anyone if he could.”
Adrian was also a leader at 5th Newark Scouts, attended by his own children, and took the group on trips to Walesby and Snowdonia.
His funeral will be held on Friday, October 7, at St Michael the Archangel’s Church, Halam.
He leaves behind his partner of 15 years, two children and three grandchildren.
