Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service say 1,000 tonnes of metal is involved in the fire at Briggs Metals Limited on Great North Road




A thick pall of black smoke can be seen from miles in every direction as a scrapyard fire in Newark continues to burn.

The blaze at Briggs Metals Ltd on Great North Road was first seen at 11.15am.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said approximately 1,000 tonnes of metal is involved in the fire.

More than 40 firefighters from across the county are tackling the blaze.

Eleven appliances, which include high volume pumps and aerial ladders, are at the scene.

East Midlands Ambulance Service are at the scene in support of the fire service.
