Newark and Sherwood District Council alert residents’ for scams

Alerts for scams around the district have been raised as individuals pretend to be from Thermotech to target residents.

Newark and Sherwood District Council posted on their social media alarming residents about the scams going on around the district.

The individuals pretending to be from Thermotech are claiming to be sent by the district council and claiming that the loft insulation foam in residents’ houses is not right and needs replacing.

They are quoting a few thousand pounds and demanding payment at the time.

The district council is reminding people to check the identification of anyone who comes to their door to ensure they work for who they say they work for and do not give them their bank details.

If in doubt, residents are advised to call 01636 650 000.

Another ongoing scam is fake texts to customers relating to cost of living payments and winter heating subsidies, which the Department for Work and Pensions is aware of.

The most recent ones seen by the council include the text — Winter cold welfare reminder — and asks readers to update their details on the link supplied.

People should not use the link to give out their personal details or respond to any suspicious text messages and to only go through official Government websites.
