Ladies Day is taking place at Southwell Racecourse tomorrow
More than 8,000 people are expected at one of the social highlights of the year, Ladies Day at Southwell Racecourse, this Sunday.
The event is eagerly anticipated by organisers and guests alike.
It is the best-attended fixture on the racecourse’s calendar, last year drawing a crowd of more than 8,500.
The glamorous annual event, held in conjunction with the Advertiser, features a full race card, followed by evening entertainment
Ladies are encouraged to dress in their best for the chance of winning a range of prizes, and men are urged to rise to the challenge of looking just as smart.
Gates open at 11am, with the first of seven jump races at 2.20pm, including a feature race at 3.20pm with a prize fund of £23,000.
After the final race there will be entertainment from leading Elvis tribute act J D King, who will be performing hits including Hound Dog, A Little Less Conversation, and more.
The racecourse’s executive director, Mark Clayton, is looking forward to Southwell once again hosting the one of the district’s social highlights of the year.
“Last year’s Advertiser Ladies Day was absolutely fantastic, both for the people that attended and the racecourse itself, with yet another big crowd of over 8,500 people flocking through the turnstiles,” he said.
“It is great once again to be working alongside our partners the Advertiser, Porsche Centre Nottingham, Eden Hall Day Spa, and Beaumond House, our designated charity on the day.”
He said he was delighted that local coach provider Travel Wright was helping once again to provide shuttle buses from Southwell and Newark.
This service, along with an improved Sunday train service to Rolleston, should help with the traffic flow to and from the racecourse.
There is plenty of on-site free carparking available for those driving themselves to the course.
One of the highlights of the event is the best-dressed competition running throughout the day, with the final on the stage after the last race, just before the live music begins.
Beaumond House Community Hospice volunteers will be selling raffle tickets to win a prize of a car.
