Salvation Army Autumn Fayre on Brisbane Court, Balderton, raises over £300 for its community work
A charity’s Autumn Fayre — complete with a visit from Mickey Mouse — has raised over £300.
Despite having to postpone the original date of the Summer Fayre, due to the weather, the Salvation Army team finally made it happen with an Autumn Fayre on Brisbane Court precinct, Balderton, this month.
The team said that although it wasn’t as busy as the Christmas Fayre last year, they had a steady stream of people.
Helen Drummond, charity shop manager, said: “It was so good to be able to get our community together on such a beautiful day.
“It was almost too hot once the sun made its way round the precinct, but we kept our volunteers hydrated throughout the morning and everyone was happy.”
There was a variety of stalls, including crafts, bric-a-brac, mystery gift, hook-a-duck and face-painting — and there was even a special guest appearance from Mickey Mouse complete with balloons and sweets.
The popular bake stall returned and was a huge hit, and the tasty treats sold out before the end of the fayre, even though lots of bakers provided goods, from cupcakes to traybakes, biscuits and marmalades.
Ernest Banks Greengrocers provided a fruit hamper and a vegetable hamper and Occasions donated an oil burner and calendar and notebook set, which was able to be sold on to raise funds.
One of the stalls was the Wild Neighbours Exhibition, which the Salvation Army hosted on September 23rd and 24th, to raise awareness for the wide amount of wildlife on Lowfield Lane and the surrounding area.
The fayre raised just short of £350 which the Salvation Army says will go a long way to help with its work in the community.
