Alternative budget proposed

The Labour group on Nottinghamshire County Council presented an alternative budget at Ollerton Town Hall yesterday.

The group said they would scrap the Tories' freeze on council tax and impose a 2% increase. The Conservative administration's tax freeze was described as a 'political gimmick.'

The leader of the Labour group, Mr Alan Rhodes, said they were realistic and knew it would not be approved on Thursday but said it was important that people knew there was an alternative to the cuts proposed by the Conservatives.

He said he was proud of the work that went into the alternative budget, which he said would stand up to scrutiny.
