Angler catches salmon in River Trent behind Lord Ted pub in Newark

An angler was stunned after catching a salmon in the River Trent.

Joseph Clarke, of Newark, says he was behind the Lord Ted pub when he landed the nine-pound fish.

Joseph, who said he was far from being a good fisherman, was out with a friend trying to catch his usual perch and pike.

He said: “It’s rare to find a salmon in the River Trent.

“I wasn’t trying to find one. I fish regularly but this was an unexpected catch.

“You are not allowed to fish for salmon.”

Joseph said, at first, he thought it was a decent sized trout.

He said: “We took photos and then released the salmon back into the river.

“At the time I thought it was a trout, but we posted photos on Facebook later that day and people told me it was actually a salmon.

“I was gobsmacked.

“I think it’s great for fisherman to see what is in the Trent.”
