Three favourite fixtures on the countryside calendar have become the latest casualties of the coronavirus.

The Collingham, Flintham and Southwell shows and ploughing matches, which all usually take place in September, will not be going ahead.

Southwell ploughing match and show, which should have taken place at Ravenshead on Saturday, September 26, will be held at Farnsfield in 2021.

In Collingham, organisers are preparing for a virtual show, with competitors able to take part in classes including best-decorated property, gardening, cake decorating, bread making, craft, photography and flower arranging, all submitted online.

There are also plans for a vintage vehicle and tractor run through the village on the day, along with a walking treasure hunt around the village.

Organisers of Flintham show said: “This has been a difficult decision to make as this year we would have been celebrating our 100th show.

“We feel that it is the responsible decision to take.”

Southwell show organisers said: “The society have reviewed government advice and, following a meeting of chief stewards, have concluded that it will not be possible to run a show in September 2020.”
