Reader's letter: Anybody, somebody's job

I have lost count of the number of emails I have sent to both Newark and Sherwood District Council and Nottinghamshire County Council regarding the issue of the 20 metre phone mast and cabinets on the junction of Grange Road/Hawton Road in Newark (Broadband Boxes To Stay At Junction, Advertiser, March 23).

It is just a massive game of ping pong with Newark and Sherwood District Council saying they only approved the planning application because Nottinghamshire County council highways didn’t object to it and Nottinghamshire County Council saying it’s down to the district council as they made the decision to approve the planning application.

Letters. (30235480)

It reminds me of the story about Whose Job Is It? It goes something like this:

‘This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody.

‘There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.

‘Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody’s job.

Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realised that Everybody wouldn’t do it.

It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have.”

Says it all I think.

In the mean time, while the game of ping pong continues, people’s lives are being put at risk. — M. CARTER, Newark.
