A mobile phone app will be used to measure the number of hours carried out by sports club volunteers.

Newark Sports Association (NSA) and Newark Athletic Club have said they would benefit from using the Twine app.

Mr Tony Colton, chairman of the NSA, said: “We know that thousands of people volunteer in sports clubs every week and that sport is the largest sector for volunteering in the UK.

“The app will allow clubs to measure volunteer time and the benefit of that is clubs will be able to demonstrate the social value they provide.”

Mr Don Evans, chairman of Newark Athletic Club, said: “Finding and retaining volunteers is a real issue. We hope the app will allow us to show how much volunteering benefits the club and the local community.

“It will also reveal how much work and commitment the volunteers at Newark Athletic Club give to supporting activities for members.

“The app will provide valuable evidence to support funding bids, as well as allowing us to identify and reward volunteers more effectively.”
