Reader's letter: Appalling act

What a distressing revelation I had on visiting the bowling green on Beaumond Gardens, Newark.

A memorial bench had been purchased by Ransome Bowls Club to record over 90 years existence of play. A brass engraved plaque was added to it to mark the ending of the club.

I am very sad to say some light-fingered people have entered the bowling green and removed the bench for their own benefit ­— be it cash or drugs.

How despicable this act is. Is nothing safe now in Newark?

How do these people live with themselves?
