Appeal’s pennies from heaven
A loose change appeal raised £190 towards a new citadel for Newark’s Salvation Army.
The money was collected at the Salvation Army’s Brisbane Court charity shop in Balderton as part of fundraising for the £1m citadel.
Planning approval has been given for the site off Lowfields Lane, Balderton, where the new citadel will be built.
It will replace the current Albert Street citadel.
The Newark commanding officer, Captain Tim Justice, said many people went into the shop specifically to give money.
He said people were still able to donate to the appeal.
“Lots of people collect loose change or put it in a pot and never think about what to do with it,” he said.
“The appeal gave people the opportunity to get rid of it.”
Mr Justice said they hoped work on the new citadel would start in the autumn with a completion date early next year.
