Arena opens as temporary carpark
A temporary carpark has opened in preparation for the closure of Newark’s Potterdyke carpark next month.
Drivers can park at the Riverside Arena, off Tolney Lane.
This is one of the temporary sites being provided as the Potterdyke carpark is redeveloped as an Asda store, plus bus station, doctors’ surgery, shops, health centre and housing.
More than 200 temporary spaces will be available until the Asda store and carpark opens by Christmas next year.
Another temporary parking area will be provided behind the Potterdyke site, off Pelham Street.
Newark and Sherwood District Council’s temporary pay-and-display carpark at the Riverside Arena has meant changes to the arrangement of the Wednesday market and auction there.
Traders are selling their goods from under the colonnade, and the auction is held in the north-eastern corner, towards the Unique Coffee Bar.
Charges for the arena carpark are the same as the Tolney Lane carpark — 90p for up to one hour; £1.40 for two hours; £1.90 for two to four hours and £2.30 for more than four hours.
A quarter (three-month) season ticket is £100. Ticket machines are on the toilet block wall beside the arena.
