A siege on a Newark street was brought to safe conclusion around 4.20am this morning when a man was detained by armed police.

The man, who locked himself inside a house in Trinity Road, Newark, has left the address and been arrested.

Officers were called to the house at around 6.45pm on Monday evening (February 3) following reports a 30-year-old man was inside.

They were responding to an allegation the man was armed with a firearm.

Specially-trained officers negotiated with the man and, at around 4.20am, he came outside voluntarily and was arrested.

It is not yet known if he was armed. Searches of the address are taking place today.

Reports locally suggested the man was armed and hostages were involved.

Police say three adults left the address voluntarily during the course of the siege.

Police say they would like to thank local residents for their co-operation and patience throughout the incident.
