Armed police brought a village high street to a standstill on Friday morning as part of a firearms incident.

A Leicestershire Police spokesman said: "We were called to Orston Lane, Bottesford at 9.16am today (Friday, December 21) to a report of a firearm being discharged.

"Armed officers have attended the location and two men were arrested nearby in connection with the incident.

"They are currently in police custody. The area was cordoned off while officers carried out enquiries into the incident.

"We can confirm an air rifle has been recovered and the report relates to a weapon being fired into the air not a firearm as first reported."
