Armed robbery at Newark bookies
Police are investigating an armed robbery at a bookmakers in Newark yesterday evening.
Staff were threatened with what was believed to be a handgun by a masked white male who entered the branch of Ladbrokes on Bowbridge Road at around 9.20pm.
No one was injured but a quantity of cash was stolen by the offender. No customers were in the shop at the time.
The robber is described as around 5ft 11ins-6ft tall and of medium build. He was wearing a black balaclava and a dark jacket.
A couple living opposite expressed their shock at what had happened on what is a busy thoroughfare with a Londis convenience store and fish and chip shop too, both of which were open at the time of the robbery.
