Nottinghamshire Police arrest two people and recover an axe recovered following a disturbance in Tithe Barn Court, Newark
Two people have been arrested after an axe was reportedly wielded in a Newark street.
Officers were called to Tithe Barn Court at around 6.45pm yesterday (Monday) after a woman was seen threatening a man with an axe during an argument.
Response officers were on the scene within minutes of the incident being reported and arrested a man aged 43 and a woman, 37, on suspicion of affray. No one was injured.
Officers also recovered an axe after it was reportedly wrestled from the woman by neighbours.
The two suspects remain in custody for questioning.
Detective Inspector Simon Harrison, of Nottinghamshire Police, said that officers are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
He said: “There is no excuse for taking a weapon into a public space and we will always take swift action to deal with incidents like this.
“Inquiries are continuing and I would urge anyone with information, or dash-cam footage of the disturbance, to contact Nottinghamshire Police.”
