Art exhibition opens
Newark College opened its art exhibition today to give the public a chance to see the students’ final projects.
The exhibition brings together the work of three different courses — art and design, graphic design and media.
The courses act as post A-level preparation to help people gain a place at university.
One student with work on show is Miss Naomi Caunt, 26, of Newark, who went to college because she wanted a new challenge.
Since 2000 she has worked as a hairdresser and is the assistant manager at the Toni and Guy salon in Newark.

Miss Caunt took a foundation diploma in art and design at the college, and now has a place on the course she wanted to study fashion in London.
Miss Caunt’s exhibit is a 3D ceramic and illustration piece about femme fatale characters in film.
Gemma Wallis, 20, of Tuxford, who has just finished a National Diploma in art and design, has a dress she designed on display in the exhibition.
She said: “It’s such a varied course.
“It acts as a valuable stepping stone. The course helps you put together your portfolio and get feedback on it.
“The opportunities for what you want to study are endless. You get to try a bit of everything in the first year before you pick a speciality in the second.”
Miss Wallis intends to go to Leeds College of Art in September to study fashion.
The students gained a range of different skills including 3D design, textiles, fashion and surface pattern, which are presented throughout the exhibition.
The exhibition is open weekdays until a week tomorrow from 9am to 4pm in the college art studios. There is an open evening on Thursday from 4pm to 7pm.
