Asda invites schoolchildren to make history
Asda Newark is calling on schoolchildren to take part in a special art competition to celebrate one of the town's historical features - the Civil War Trail.
As a soon to be resident of Newark, Asda is looking for pupils to draw their own version of one of the oldest features in town, including the main points of interest on the trail.
These include the castle, the parish church, which still has a cannon ball hole in its spire, and the Governor's House in the Market Place.
The winning entry will be unveiled at Asda Newark’s official opening on November 14 and will find a permanent place on the store’s walls to remind customers of the town’s rich history.
As well as being invited to the official opening of the store with their class, the winning pupil will also receive a £75 Asda gift card to share with their class mates.
Two runners-up will also receive £25 gift cards each.
Asda Newark store manager, Chris Rafferty said: “With a history as rich as Newark’s, it is important for us to understand what the town means to its residents and what better way than through their own interpretation of a feature that has stood the test of time.
"We are excited to see how Newark looks through the eyes of its youngest inhabitants.
“We are delighted to be joining this community and hopefully we can be an important part of it for many years to come – just like the Civil War Trail.”
Entries can be any size and are being accepted until Wednesday of next week.
They can be either posted to Asda Civil War Trail Competition, 3rd Floor, 52 Princess Street, Manchester, M1 6JX, or scanned and emailed to asdanewark@eurorscg.com
The winning pupil will be notified via their school by Thursday of next week.
