Audi A4 driver rammed police at Newark McDonald's before crashing through fence to get away
The driver of a car, boxed in by two police cars in Newark McDonald's, rammed vehicles and drove through a fence to evade officers.
Armed officers in an unmarked police car saw a silver Audi A4 convertible they suspected was being driven on cloned plates at the drive-thru on Lincoln Road.
They worked with colleagues from the Newark response team that pulled up behind the suspect vehicle.
The driver of the Audi reversed into the marked police vehicle and then forward into the undercover car before breaking out of the carpark through a wooden fence.
No one was reported to have been injured after the incident at around 11.20pm on Tuesday (June 15) but the police vehicles were extensively damaged and one of them undriveable.
Inquiries are underway to track down the silver Audi that sped off towards Newark town centre.
Inspector Charlotte Allardice, district commander for Newark and Sherwood, said: "The driver of this car acted incredibly dangerously and caused extensive damage to the restaurant fence and to two police cars.
"We are grateful that no one was injured as a result of this erratic behaviour.
"We have a robust investigation taking place and we're exploring all avenues in order to track down the driver of this car.
"We don't yet know why this car was being used with cloned number plates but it is usually so the driver can carry out driving offences or other criminal activity and go undetected. We won't tolerate this behaviour.
"If anyone saw a silver Audi A4 convertible being driven in a suspicious manner in the Newark area last night or has any information that could help, please call us on 101 quoting incident 945 of June 15."
