Volunteers from Newark, Southwell and Ollerton were among those honoured at a tea party organised by Girlguiding Nottinghamshire.

Newark division commissioner Jodie Stevens received three awards, including a County Brooch and an Oak Leaf in recognition of her outstanding contribution to Guiding.

She was also presented with the Queen’s Guide Award — the highest honour available.

Sue Wilkinson, of the Newark Division, was presented with an award to mark 40 years’ service.

Awards to members of the Southwell Division included County Brooches to Clare Leggett and Jen Wheeldon and an Oak Leaf to Pauline Leafe.

A Thanks Brooch was given to Becca Craven as a gesture of personal appreciation by county commissioner Jackie Brocklehurst.

Sindy Saxton, of the Ollerton Division, was presented with an Oak Leaf.

Jackie Brocklehurst presented awards to more than 50 members and supporters to mark their exceptional commitment and achievements at the ceremony in Mansfield.

In addition to presenting long-service awards to 20 women, who have devoted a combined total of more than 700 years to Guiding, Jackie gave Oak Leaf awards to more than 20 leaders.

The Nottinghamshire Star was given to four non-uniformed volunteers in recognition of their outstanding commitment to Guiding.

Five Queen’s Guide Awards were awarded, seven county brooches and three Thanks badges were presented.

Jackie said: “The people we applauded have given truly exceptional service to Girlguiding in Nottinghamshire.

“It was a pleasure — and a privilege — to publicly acknowledge their role in ensuring that the opportunities created through Girlguiding membership are kept open for so many girls and young women across the county.”

There are about 9,000 girls in Girlguiding groups in Nottinghamshire, including Rainbows, aged five to seven, Brownies, aged seven to ten, Guides, aged ten to 14 and Rangers, Senior Section and Young Leaders, aged 14 to 25.
