Mums often find it difficult to juggle childcare with finding the time to exercise so new classes in Fernwood and Southwell could be the answer.

Emily Jones is running Sweaty Mama fitness sessions that enable mums to exercise with their child.

“There is no need to organise childcare,” Emily said.

“Sweaty Mama allows you to bond with your child while you do the workout — utilising their weight to intensify the exercise.”

Emily, who is originally from America, was an early years teacher and a dance teacher in London. She moved to Southwell with her husband after having their son, Theo, now one, so they could be closer to family.

“There were aspects to being a teacher that I loved but I couldn’t imagine going back to it after becoming a mother. I decided to look for something else,” she said.

So when she came across the Sweaty Mama concept, Emily was delighted that she had found something she could bring to the community.

'Mums can join at any time'

She completed her ETM (exercise to music) and pre/post-natal fitness qualifications as well as a Sling Training Safety course to ensure she can give mums the best advice and support.

“Mums can get a fantastic workout but they can do it in a relaxed environment with other like-minded people,” Emily said.

“All fitness levels are welcome and mums can join at any time.”

The sessions are suitable for mums with babies from six weeks old and children up to the age of four. The workouts are adapted to suit the weight and age of the child.

Older siblings are welcome during school holidays.

The 45-minute sessions incorporate a warm-up, plus cardio, resistance and core strength work.

“We do some floor work and interact throughout the session so the children are entertained,” Emily said.

“We encourage mums to come a little early to get settled and relax.”

Sessions are at the Tozer Studios, Southwell, on Tuesdays, from 1.30pm, and at Fernwood Village Hall on Wednesdays, from 1.45pm, and Thursdays, from 10am.

The course is £35 for six weeks. Places can be booked at Emily.sweatymama.com
