Balderton woman dies after head-on crash

A 79-year-old Balderton woman has died after being involved in a head-on traffic collision.

The woman and her 78-year-old husband, who was driving a blue Vauxhall Corsa, collided with a silver Chevrolet Matiz on the A156 at Marton on Sunday evening.

The man was taken to Lincoln County Hospital with serious injuries but his wife was taken by air ambulance to Northern General Hospital, Sheffield, where she later died.

The driver of the Matiz, a 51-year-old woman from Gainsborough, and her front seat passenger, a 46-year-old woman from Gainsborough, were taken to Lincoln County Hospital with serious injuries.

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area of the A156 at Marton on Saturday evening at around 5.45pm and saw either the silver Chevrolet Matiz or the blue Vauxhall Corsa before the collision, or saw the actual collision, to contact the witness hotline on 01522 558855.

Constable Stephen Holmes of Lincoln Roads Policing Unit is dealing with the incident.
